I don’t generally like people’s home made compilations, but this one works really well. It shows so many of Harold’s on film moods. It’s worth watching for the brilliant moment when Harold and another actor hang themselves up on coatpegs. Like so much of Lloyd’s physical gags, it’s so smoothly and effortlessly carried out.
This is ‘thrill comedy’ at its best. I love the part where he grabs the loose upright girder. Watching his clambering and climbing, it’s interesting to remember that Lloyd was missing a good portion of one of his hands, the result of an accident on the set of an earlier film.

Some good gags here. Watch the economy of movement in his encounters with the policeman and the great double take when he discovers his ‘patient’ isn’t who he thought. A lot of falling over in the second half.

Filmed in 1921, this was Lloyd’s last short film before he moved to a feature film format. The comedy is very physical and the film crew (and Lloyd) learned the stunt techniques that would be put to even more spectacular use in Safety Last.
In this first reel, Harold uses an ingenious and unethical means of drumming up trade for his girlfriend’s Osteopath employer.

A truly frantic section. This is the archetypal Hollywood chaos-creating chase scene. I’m pretty sure the tram scene is directly copied in a Jackie Chan film and other ideas seen here crop up in a hundred other films. Certainly, some of the horse-related shenanigans were borrowed for the original Ben Hur chariot scene, filmed a year later.

Action-packed section. Nice gags with a learner driver and a glimpse of the famous Lloyd athleticism towards the end of the clip.
